Embossing is a technique used to create relief on a surface. It can be achieved in a variety of ways using embossing plates that are pressed against the material to create raised patterns. 3D embossing is a more advanced technique than traditional embossing as it adds an extra dimension to the surface. Unlike traditional embossing, which is two-dimensional, 3D embossing gives a three-dimensional appearance to the design. The male and female pressure plates are of different heights, and the manufacturing process for the plates is not the same as for traditional embossing, since they are machined.

3D embossing is only possible with blind embossing (without ink or curved gilding). This means that the 3D embossing must be located in an area where no ink will be printed. 3D embossing offers exceptional rendering when the blank paper is sculpted and shaped instead of matching a print. 3D embossing is only available on our luxury offset and cotton ranges (by quotation). 3D embossing cannot be carried out on express orders or within the usual lead times. Please allow 5 working days in addition to the initial lead time. Many factors can delay the production of these cards, such as the late production of the plate specific to this technique (machining). The height of the 3D embossing can be up to 5.5 mm. There should be a gradual slope without sharp edges (to prevent the paper from tearing). Our team will advise you on this before your card goes into production. When you place your order, you will need to provide us with your graphic mock-up and a file of your 3D visual in .stl, .obj or .dwg format. If you are unable to provide a 3D file, our teams can draw one (by quotation only).
